International Maritime Youth Program
2015 (IMYP 2015) organized by West Sulawesi University and supported by
local government is the first Maritime Program for Youth held in
Indonesia (www.imypwsu.com). It was held from November 30th – December 8th 2015 in Majene, West Sulawesi Indonesia.
Aden Sugiantoro (Faculty of Law – University of Esa Unggul, Jakarta –
Indonesia) became one of the delegates representing Indonesia in IMYP
2015. Over 1.800 youths from all around the world applying to
be the delegates, but only 47 delegates were chosen to take part in the
program.
The 47 chosen delegates came from
different countries, such as China, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan,
India and Indonesia. IMYP 2015 was designed to be a forum for youth to
run a small research through observations on Mangrove Ecosystems, Coral
Reef Ecosystems, Seagrass Ecosystems, Regional Aquaculture, Mari-culture
Cultivation area and Fisheries. Delegates participated in many
different activities to experience and express their ideas, not only
from the perspective of maritime, but also cultural activities and
social development activities. Delegates were also required to stay with
local fishermen to observe life in the area and its social impacts.
After the homestay program with the local fishermen, delegates had to
deliver a presentation about their observation and Aden Sugiantoro managed to get the Best Performance from the organizer among another delegates.
IMYP 2015 was then planned to be sustainable which means it is going to
be an annual program for youth to participate and express their ideas
related to Maritime both National and International.
